Privacy policy

Blue Sox Constructions Pty Ltd builds projects across New South Wales. Blue Sox — the website and the iOS app — is the software those projects run on. This policy says what it collects, why, who else sees it, and how to have it removed. It applies to everyone who uses Blue Sox: our own staff, the clients whose projects we are building, and the subcontractors and installers invited onto a job.

Accounts

Anybody can make an account, and a new account opens nothing: it waits until somebody at Blue Sox adds it to a project, or invites that person onto the team. Adding a subcontractor or installer to a project names the sections of the job they may see — the drawings, the photos, the program — and they see nothing else of it: not the estimate, not what anything costs, not the other jobs on the book.

What we hold

  • Who you areYour name and email address, and a sign-in identifier, so the app knows whose account it is. Sign-in is handled by Clerk; we never see or store your password.
  • What you put into a projectDrawings, documents, photos, site diary notes, invoices and the estimate itself, together with who uploaded each thing and when. This is the working record of a construction project and is the reason the app exists.
  • Photos you take in the appA photo taken with the camera in the app is attached to the project you were in when you took it, and nothing else. The app does not read your photo library except for the photos you pick, and it does not collect where a photo was taken.
  • A notification tokenIf you allow notifications, the app registers a token for your device so we can tell you when a drawing you uploaded has been read. It identifies the device, not you personally, and it is removed when it stops working.

What we do not do

  • No advertisingThere is none in Blue Sox, and nothing here is used to target any.
  • No trackingWe do not follow you across other apps or websites, and we do not build a profile of you.
  • No sellingWe do not sell your information, and we do not give it to data brokers.
  • No microphone, no locationThe app asks for neither. It does not record audio and it does not collect your location.

Who else sees it

Running the app means a handful of companies process parts of it on our behalf. Each one is used for the job named beside it and nothing else:

  • Clerksign-in and account management.
  • Vercelhosting the site, and storing the files uploaded to it.
  • A managed PostgreSQL databasethe projects, estimates and records themselves.
  • Anthropicreading drawings. A drawing you upload is sent to be read so its quantities can be measured off it. It is not used to train anybody's model.
  • Expodelivering push notifications to your device.

Beyond these, we disclose information only where the law requires it, or to our own professional advisers where they are bound to keep it confidential.

How long it is kept

A project's records are kept for as long as the project is live and afterwards for as long as we are required to keep records of the work — construction records are kept for years, not weeks, and a client or a certifier may need them long after a site is finished. An account can be deleted by the person holding it, under Your account in the app, and that wipes their data: the account and its sign-in, their Claude connections, saved chats, reminders and unpublished markups are deleted, and their name and email come off every job within a day. The drawings, photos, diary entries and documents they added to a job stay with the job without their name, because they are part of its record. The database's backups, kept to restore it after a failure, still hold what was there when each was taken. Each is deleted as it ages out, the last within five years.

What you can ask for

  • A copyAsk us what we hold about you and we will tell you.
  • A correctionIf something about you is wrong, we will fix it.
  • RemovalDelete your account yourself, under Your account in the app. It wipes your data and can't be undone: your account, sign-in, Claude connections, saved chats, reminders and unpublished markups are deleted, and your name and email come off every job within a day. What you added to a job stays on it without your name. If you can no longer sign in, write to us and we will help you get in to delete it.
  • PermissionsThe camera, photo-library and notification permissions the iOS app asks for can each be turned off at any time in Settings › Blue Sox, without uninstalling the app.

Security

Access is granted by Blue Sox and scoped to what each person needs. Files are stored privately and served only to accounts entitled to them. On a phone the app can be locked with Face ID, so a phone left on a site bench does not show a job's costs. No system is perfect, and we will tell affected people promptly if something goes wrong with theirs.

Children

Blue Sox is a tool for people working on construction projects. It is not directed at children.
